The Original ‘’Zombieland’’, which was released in October 2009, was a light-hearted take on the zombie genre as it mixed the horror of the walking dead with some deadly comedy.
A decade after ‘’Zombieland’’ impressed viewers with its light-hearted take on the zombie genre, it is now confirmed that its sequel ‘’Zombieland 2’’ will hit theatres late 2019. The film will contain the same cast as that of its prequel, with all of Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee), Jesse Eisenberg (Columbus), Emma Stone (Wichita), and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock) signing up.
So popular the movie became that its writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese became household Hollywood names after its release. The duo went on to write ‘’Deadpool’’ and ‘’G.I. Jos: Retaliation’’.
In an interview to Vulture, Wernick has confirmed: “We’re going on the tenth anniversary of Zombieland. Zombieland came out in October 2009. We don’t know what you get someone for their tenth anniversary, but it may be a Zombieland 2.’’
“The hope is that we’re shooting that thing early 2019 for an October of ’19 release.”
The ‘’Zombieland’’ revealed around the four cast members who came together after a mad zombie disease overran the whole of America. The ending of the first film, which showed the four cast members playing in the amusement park in Los Angeles after slaughtering some zombies, certainly left the space for a sequel.
For, while all of them had killed their fair share of zombies, the creatures were still around, infecting more people by the minute. So there was every chance that the film would come back with a second chapter.
Judging by the age of Tallahassee in the ‘’Zombieland’’, it could be surmised that ‘’Zombieland 2’’ might show him not that much aged. Little Rock, however, will be shown as he was already at an advanced age in 2009.
Before making its sequel, the writers were keen on turning ‘’Zombieland’’ into a drama series. Their efforts succeeded in convincing Amazon to give ‘’Zombieland’’ a pilot run in 2013. However, the network decided that it wasn’t in its best interests to prolong the pilot episode into a full season.
