In the past, Netflix has filmed originals in Africa but never ordered originals shows from there. That’s about to change, as the company’s revealed at a conference this week. Erik Barmack promised that Netflix would order some shows from Africa in 2019- it will be all new for Netflix to do it, and, as Barmack revealed Netflix was already “looking at opportunities” in the expansive continent.
To date, Netflix’s international efforts have focused on many places around the world as Asia, Europe, and Latin America, and it has only recently started to address large demographics in some parts of the world. Expansions like this could be vital to serving as many countries where there are few streaming options.
