In an effort to take down what she recognizes as the ‘’beauty myth’’, Selena Gomez took to her Instagram account on Sunday night to share a body-positive post.
In the video which she posted not long before midnight, Selena is shown with her friends on a sailing tour of Sydney, Australia. She captioned the post with the message ‘’ “obsession with physical perfection that traps a modern woman in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self-consciousness, and self-hatred.”
The video she shared was soundtracked with ‘’Dream Tonite’’, and at the end of the video, she spoke some words of self-empowerment for her female followers: ‘’ “I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone.”

Responding to her post in the comments section, the American comedian Amy Schumer thanked Selena for her encouraging message.
Selena is vocal about her physical and mental health since 2015, the year in which she publicly announced that she had a lupus diagnosis, a disease which affects the kidneys of the patient.
Afterward, in 2017, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant to replace her kidney with the one donated by actress and close friend Francia Raisa.
So determined has Gomez been about her health that, in an interview given last month, she was quoted as saying that she will always start any project looking after her health and well-being.
In the praise of Instagram, Gomez said that the social media giant has given her a platform to tell her own story. “It has given me a voice amid all the noise of people trying to narrate my life for me,” she told the magazine.
This trip of Gomez to Australia has come just a week after reports surfaced claiming that she is no longer in a relationship with boyfriend Justin Bieber.
After dating on-and-off between 2011 and 2015, the pair had only got back together last year.
